Nap Anxiety

Getting things done while the baby naps

Is always a bit of a scramble

You never know how long she will sleep

So it’s also a bit of a gamble

Meals or mess or mindfulness

You cannot do them all

So make your pick and do it quick

Before you hear her call

Toes on the Table

She puts her toes on the table again

And looks at me with that knowing grin

I try not to smile, but I do anyway

Table manners can wait for some other day

A Plea from Portland

This plea goes out to family, friends

And strangers one and all

Promise me you’ll cast your vote

For Biden in the Fall

‘He’s too far left’ ‘He’s too far right’

I’m hearing what you say

But promise me you’ll choose

On that third November day

Captain Sarah

Sarah’s going vroom vroom vroom

On her airplane in our living room

I send a pic across the sea

To our distant family

Someday she will ride a jet

But that day isn’t coming yet

Alas, we do not know quite when

‘Til then, I guess, we’ll just pretend

The Unmasked Man

Yesterday I want to punch

A mean man in the face

To make him eat his ugly words

And put him in his place

But I don’t even know

How to calmly, firmly ask

A stranger in my driveway

To please put on a mask

On White Saviors

They thought they were teaching us justice

When they taught us Harper Lee

But we just learned that Black folks need

A Finch to set them free
