She lumbers along like a tiny bear
A tiny bear with short red hair
Despite her little ringlet curls
She roars like the queen of the forest world
She lumbers along like a tiny bear
A tiny bear with short red hair
Despite her little ringlet curls
She roars like the queen of the forest world
Let’s try an experiment
‘Til Earth Day comes next year
Anytime we give a gift
To celebrate good cheer
Let that gift be secondhand
Upcycled or Fair Trade
Artisan-produced
Or in the USA be made
If that gift is an experience
Let’s choose one with low waste
And see if we can redefine
The standard of good taste
We welcome baby girls and boys
With gifts of books and clothes and toys
Plastic balls and tiny T’s
Manufactured overseas
The Earth we once had has been lost
Does all this cute stuff have a cost?
Portlandia is mighty
As she looks down from above
And then there’s Lady Liberty
Whose silhouette we love
Artists use The Woman
To show us an ideal
Rather than real women
Who might think
And act and feel
Gentlemen on horseback
I have seen an awful lot
But real women from our history?
It seem they were forgot
Sarah flings her spoon
And sweet potatoes on the floor
But I have a younger brother
And I’ve seen this game before
My husband washes off the spoon
Gives it back, and then
I watch in mock surprise
As that spoon hits the floor again
The poet and the engineer
Were two sides of a coin
Not quite yin and yang as such
But surely forces joined
The poet said “Let’s organize”
The engineer said “Not”
The engineer said, “Much too cold”
The poet said “Too hot”
The poet buzzed up in the air
Looking all around
The engineer provided
A base of stable ground
Little Miss Naughty
Sat on the potty
She never had climbed on before
She then turned around
Climbed onto the ground
And decided to pee on the floor
Sprinkled donuts from downtown
Make a yummy breakfast treat
Step careful on the pebbles
In my tender springtime feet
Smell the coconut of sunscreen
On nose and ear and knee
Run down to greet the ocean
That was waiting just for me
Sarah gave a sermon
Not sure what it was about
She was quite enthusiastic
Raised her arms and gave a shout
I would have liked to hear the sermon
That was coming through on Zoom
But I’ll give my daughter credit
She can sure command a room
Sometimes we like to pretend
That racism’s come to an end
But it sadly has not
And somehow we’ve got
To repeal and replace our old lens
